Palila and Māmane Blossom Sticker
Palila are found only on the island of Hawai‘i and are specialized eaters. Almost all of the palila’s diet consists of māmane seeds but they also eat the flowers, buds, and leaves, in addition to some fruits and the occasional caterpillar. The amount of māmane seeds produced in a season influences nesting behavior and if the māmane aren't producing much, some palila pairs won’t even make a nest that year.
