Fear not! This speeding ‘Akikiki asteroid poses no imminent danger to planet Earth. There is actually an asteroid name ‘Akikiki though. A school class and their teacher in India worked with the International Astronomical Union to officially rename asteroid 7613 after Kaua‘i’s ‘Akikiki. The adorable ‘Akikiki (ah-kee-KEE-kee) is critically endangered but there is hope in habitat restoration and captive breeding.
