The Alalā (“ah-lah-LAH”), or Hawaiian Crow, is an intelligent bird, revered in Hawaiian culture and the last of several Hawaiian crow species that once lived in the islands. At one time they were extinct in the wild but Alalā have recently been introduced back into the Hawaiian landscape on Maui. Crows are an important part of the forest because they spread seeds and encourage plant diversity that keeps the forest and water systems healthy.
